CHAPTER 37 -REVOLUTION

I returned to Hyde, not knowing what else to do. I was not a virgin, so I had that going for me, but I was a mess inside.
"I don't know what I feel," I told my counselor. He brought up work crew again.
"How about digging a ditch? Maybe you can feel that." Why a prep school needed so many ditches was beyond me.
Recently, my sister sent me a box of correspondence from that era.
"I'm losing weight, Mom!"
"They made me leader of my government class group!" It saddens me now, how hard I was trying to be a good kid, all the while suspecting I wasn't.
My report cards had a few good things to say about me, but I mostly absorbed the criticisms.
"Perhaps the challenges of senior year have been put upon Vanda too early. She remains a little girl. It is time for her to grow up and become a woman."
"Vanda is ok, but she has the potential to be way more. Until she realizes she is a woman, she will approach everything in her usual gum-chewing, semi-serious way. Good talent, but immature. Frustrating indeed."
