Vanda, you probably know the books by Dr. Gabor Maté? And you also probably did work with plants from the Amazon, or mycelium of fungi (truffles), containing bio-chemical 🙈 substances which were used for healing all over Europe and other places?
Especially used for healing trauma as the underlying cause of addiction.
Somehow healing emotional pain was against the narrative of the church (suffering to get into heaven), so these healers were often called witches and got burned at the stake. During the Dark Ages and the still rather dark Renaissance, up to today.
Gabor Maté puts it this way, based on his experience: „Not every person with trauma develops an addiction, but every person with addiction has experienced traumatic events“.
